- The Cultural Club of Methoni, organised a two-day event in
Methoni and Finikounda, with the Folk Dance Group of Nea
Vissa Orestiada, Greece (a village reknown to all
the mathematicians, as the birthplace of Stephanos Karatheodoris,
famous mathematician and teacher to Albert Einstein). The Folk
Dance Group of the Cultural Club of Nea Vissa,
"Stephanos Karatheodoris" performed for two days: On
Monday, the 27th of August in the central square of Methoni, and
on Tuesday, the 28th of August in the open theatre of Finikounda.
What is particular about the Folk Dance Group of Nea Vissa, is
the spectacular traditional
dress, unique in Greece. Further information and

Nea Vissa: New Thermopylai. The event takes place with
the cooperation of the Municipality of Methoni., and the Cultural
Club of Finikounda. The Folk Dance Group of Methoni performed
5 dances from the area of the Peloponnese and 6 from the area
of Macedonia, while the Folk Dance Group of Nea Vissa, performed
7 dances from Thrace. Both groups danced a Kalamatianos at the
end, to the delight of everyone present. The groups exchanged
gifts, and memorabilia. The board members of the "Stephanos
Karatheodoris" group, have presented the Mayor of Methoni
and the Vice- Mayor, Mr. Karvelas, as well as the boards of the
Cultural Clubs of Methoni and Finikounda with books about the
village of Nea Vissa and medals to the memory of Stephanos Karatheodoris,
in order to establish strong bonds of friendship between those
two areas of Greece that are so far apart geographically, but
so close at heart. It was e memorable evening, enjoyed by all
present.
- On Thursday, the 2nd of August, the port of Finikounda was full
of people, attending the award ceremony for the sailing ompetition
that started in Naples and lasted 4 days. The Municipality arranged
for an open air buffet for all, right on the pier, and under the
enchanting light of the almost full moon.
- The book exhibition next to the petrol station, still continues,
with books for all ages and tastes.
BIOLOGICAL SANITATION DEVELOPMENT
The construction of the new sanitation network and hte creation
of a new plant that biologically processes soils, has been approved.
The budget for the project will rise to 1,5 billion drachmas and
in order to cover the are of Finikounda as well, to 2,2 billion
drachmas. It is funded by the 3rd Operational Programme within
the Regional Programme for the Peloponnese.
THE HARBOUR OF FINIKOUNDA
A project that is expected to be in its final stage of development
in June-July, is the improvement of the port facilities of Finikounda,
which is funded by the 2nd Operational Programme with the sum
of 330 million drachmas from the fund of the Ministry of Agriculture.
ROAD CONSTRUCTION
Till the beginning of September the road of Akritohori-Finikounda
is scheduled to be completed. It is funded by the 2nd Operational
Programme with the sum of 800 million drachmas.
By the end of June, the intersection of the roads Methoni-Pylos
and Methoni-Finikounda is also scheduled to be completed. The
project is funded with 40 milion drachmas by the Hellenic Ministry
for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works, and is
constructed in order to avoid car accidents.
PLANS
Reformation of the centre of Finikounda. The project calls for
paving, lighting, tree-planting of the main street and bystreets.
This is also funded with 80 million drachmas.
