We thank the Municipality of Methoni (http://www.methoni.gr) for the use of its photographic material, as well as all of you, who have kindly send us your photos. The majority of the photographs at the moment portay the scenery around Finikounda, since this is what attracts most of the visitors here. There is, however, a section with photographs of Finikounda during the past decades, when it was just a fishing village. In the next few weeks, we are going to do an editorial on the people and the life in the village, as well. For the moment, sit back and enjoy the view!!

The following photographs are a look into the past, when Finikounda was no more than a bunch of picturesque houses on the strand of beach, when little children with bare feet run playing into the narrow whitewashed streets, when old ladies sat under the jasmin talking in the hot summer nights, and the fishing boats were tied next to the houses. When there were almost no restaurants, or very few ones, with the tables on the sand, just by the edge of the water. This is a tribute to all of you who were lucky enough, as children or adults, to sit on a wooden chair at the edge of the water, with your toes digging into the warm wet sand, listening to the singing coming through the open doorways, and the laughter of the children splashing in the water... As for the rest of you, this is a virtual time warp into what has shaped Finikounda as it is today.
Even though Finikounda is practically built on a beach, there is a large variety of places to choose for swimming or water sports. All the area surrounding it features landscapes and strands of beach of unique beauty, which you are welcome to explore and enjoy by car, boat or even on foot.
